Tuukka Kaila – Placeholder

Welcome to the opening reception and book release on Friday 18 October 2019 from 6 to 9pm. The exhibition is on view 19 October – 10 November 2019. Gathering for conversation on Saturday 9 November at 1pm.

Placeholder presents new lens- and text-based works exploring diverse ways of knowing across a broad range of curiosity driven systems.

The discursive gathering held in conjunction with the show focuses on the role of knowledge in the production of reality and the position of art in relation to knowledge. In conversation with the artist are philosopher of science Inkeri Koskinen, curator Elina Suoyrjö and scholar of international relations Antto Vihma. The discussion is mainly in Finnish. The event is free, the space is safe and there will be coffee.

The artist's book Placeholder: Towards Epistemic Diversity is released on the occasion of the show. It invites ideas and thinking from various positions across the epistemological field to share the book's space with abstract imagery and an open source placeholder tool for contemporary Finnish language.
