SIC Summer Residency: Hermanni Saarinen
Hermanni Saarinen is the first resident of the SIC Summer Residency programme. He will be working at SIC during summer and exhibiting his works at SIC at the end of the residency period. The exhibition dates will be announced later.
For the upcoming exhibition in SIC, Hermanni Saarinen is making modular wooden sculptures. The modular parts of the sculptures are carved into three different shapes and sizes. These modular variables set the parametrics for the appearance of the sculptures.
A term to describe the logic of these sculptures can be taken from music: counterpoint. In the context of sculpture, counterpoint could mean a relation of a form to its counter form, and what kind of a harmony and composition they can create together.
Within a gallery space these sculptures are put together forming pipelines, rhythms of movements, currents and concentrations of energy.

Hermanni Saarinen on ensimmäinen SICin kesäresidenssitaiteilija.
Termi, jolla veistoksia voisi kuvailla, löytyy musiikin teoriasta: kontrapunkti.

December 3-7, 2014, South Beach, Miami FL

Initiatives for Individuality gives a content and concept driven introduction to the Finnish contemporary art scene. The selection of galleries and art spaces showcases a variety of actors from the independent to the commercial, from the agency to the collaborator. With this focus, the project presents how the multifaceted scene facilitates for and develops contemporary art, its processes and productions.
The participating artists are internationally exhibiting, conceptually individual and methodologically distinct. All their practices have a dialogic relation to a site of operation. With the variety of mediums the project takes into account the countless, cutting-edge installation possibilities at the UNTITLED.
